Donnie Massengale and the staff of the Massengale Golf Academy in Spring were named winners of the Ping National Club Fitter of the Year Award. Sam Ybarbo of Edwin Watts in San Antonio, Greg Sikes of Hogan Park Golf Course. in Midland and Mac Spikes of Rivercrest Country Club in Fort Worth were regional winners.

The father-son team of Greg Antunes of the Stonetree Golf Club in Killeen and Jon Antunes of HOT Golf in Waco claimed the NTPGA’s Ace Laminates/Horseshoe Pro-Pro title. The pair posted 63-68--131 at the Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, LA.

Brad Lardon, recently named as director of golf at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, claimed the Southern Texas PGA United Sports Technologies Match Play Championship with a 1up win over defending champion Tim Hobby at the San Antonio Country Club. Marty Fleckman of Cypress won the senior division title for the second year in a row, defeating Garry Rippy of Austin 2&1.

Two Texas courses received recognition as runners-up in the National Golf Foundation’s fifth Customer Loyalty Awards. Cypress Golf Club’s Tradition Course in Spring and Pecan Hollow Golf Course in Plano took honors in the $40-$70 and $40 and under divisions, respectively.

Duke Butler, former executive director of the Houston Golf Association, announced his retirement as senior vice president of tournament operations for the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour has named Any Baby Can, one of the charities supported by the Valero Texas Open, as the Charity of the Year.

Professionals Bobby Cornett (70-74--144) of Arlington and Garry Rippy (76-68--144) of Austin shared honors with amateur Tom Takes (71-73--144) of Weatherford in the Prestonwood Senior Open

The Dos Rios Golf Club of New Braunfels claimed the TGA State Club Team Championship with scores of 143-143--246 at Comanche Trace Golf Club in Kerrville. Terrence Miskell posted 67-72--139 to pace Dos Rios. Joining him were David Pfeuffer and Ken Lawrence.

Defending champions Trevor Hyde and Shawn Westacott of Kerrville closed with a 63 for a 130 total at River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy to claim the TGA South Four Ball. David Moore and Steve Bueltel of Kingwood won the senior title at 137.
