Two roads diverged on a map, and I took the one quickest traveled. It was a last second deal that was too good to turn down even though it was Sunday and I hadn’t planned on an excursion. The best trips are always the ones you don’t plan. So it was I-35 southbound through San Antonio with a right turn through the hamlets of Castroville, Hondo, D’hanis, and finally Sabinal, where veering north on Hwy 127 presented us with a snapshot of the old town and great little BBQ joint for lunch to-go. We made great time listening to the local outlaw station and staring at the “mountains” in the distance. We were leaving the desert scrub of south Texas and heading into the Hill Country. |

I wasn’t going to let Southwest Airlines ruin my trip. After all I had been planning this trip for weeks, and what difference was a little flight delay (2 hours) going to make, considering we would be spending four days playing golf on some of New Mexico’s finest golf courses. |
